DAS FÜRSTENKIND

(1909) (Music by Franz Lehár: Book and lyrics by Victor Léon)

Synopsis

The scenario of his operetta is familiar - a Robin Hood-like bandit who is actually a Prince, his daughter (brought up as a princess but not knowing where or what her father is) who falls in love with a naval officer; the bandit falling for a pretty banker's daughter among his captives --- but the setting is unusual, alternating between an American ship visiting Athens and the bandit's camp in the Greek mountains. One of the less familiar Lehár operettas from his richly melodic, pre-1914, period.
