THE BEGGAR'S OPERA

Adapted by David Turner from John Gay's play
Music arranged by Roy Darby

Synopsis

John Gay's famous "opera of the people" has been adapted for modern use by David Turner, with new arrangements of traditional airs by Roy Darby. All the essential ingredients of the story are there-Macheath's love of women and Polly's and Lucy's fight over him; Peachum's selling of Macheath to the law; Macheath in jail, his escape and re-capture, and his eventual pardon so a happy ending can be achieved. The settings are simple, with the action flowing from one scene to another, without complicated set changes.

The Cast:

M 18, F 12 (doubling possible) Chorus
