COUNTERPOINT

Book, music and lyrics by Shirlie Roden

Upstairs at the Gatehouse - October 10, 2000 (15 perfs)

The story deals with copywriter Sian who lives with poor and struggling actor Luke, and the problem of their relationship and how she transfers her affections to ageing, millionaire film producer James. The piece has an older Sian at 39 looking back on her younger self 12 years earlier, trying to come to terms with her family and her past in an effort to reach some kind of truth about her life.

When Sian flies into the arms of James, it is a big thing for her, but not for him. He cannot get over the one woman he really loved but who died. When Luke feels pushed out by Sian, he immediately seeks solace elsewhere.
